Cumberland Council said that a fire in a bin lorry was most likely caused by a battery.
On Friday, June 14, a Cumberland Council refuse vehicle caught fire in the Warwick Road area of Carlisle.
Emergency services were called to the scene and safely escorted back to the depot where the waste has been tipped and extinguished.
There were no reports of injuries to staff and Cumberland Council thanked residents for their ‘understanding and patience’.

A spokesperson for Cumberland Council said: "While the working assumption is that the incident was most likely caused by a battery, it could have also been a vape or other item with a battery inside it,"
"To prevent such incidents, we urge residents to practice responsible waste disposal, sorting, and recycling."
