Work has officially started on Carlisle's southern entrance to create a more vibrant area with road closures and bus route changes set to take place in the future.
Cumberland Council is working with Story Contracting to improve the area around English Street to make it more attractive for residents, businesses, and visitors.
The Carlisle Southern Gateway is part of Cumberland Council's regeneration project for key parts of the city.
Four of the five bus shelters on English street have been removed but the Denton Holme stop will remain for the next couple of weeks.
The new Denton Holme bus stop on Victoria Viaduct is expected to be completed by August while other routes will maintain their current detours until all of the work is completed in spring 2025.
From February, English Street will be closed for ten weeks for surfacing works.
A section of the West Walls car park will be used for works and access will be restricted to the central steps.
