A road closed after a crash which 'caused substantial damage' has reopened this evening (June 21).

Kirkgate in Cockermouth was closed to traffic after a crash on June 19, which left a corner building damaged.

There were roadworks being carried out at the area at the time, and it was believed a lorry with machinery on the back got stuck, causing damage to Kirkgate Corner.

A spokesperson from Cumberland Council said this evening that the house has been inspected by the building owners' contractors and signed off as safe.

"This means that we are now able to remove the temporary road closure this evening.

"Thank you for your patience while we dealt with this unfortunate situation."
