THE former home of The Cumberland News and News & Star has been sold subject to contract.

The historical building, on Dalston Road, went under the hammer at an auction for £835,000 on June 19.

The two-floor property, offering an area of 23,500 square feet, sought to offer potential buyers the opportunity for the redevelopment of the site.

Towards the end of 2021, The Press Hall, which was situated at the rear of Newspaper House, was demolished.

The iconic building, which used to house the printing press and despatch areas, saw millions of newspaper editions come off the presses until 2018.

The printing of publications was moved to Newsquest’s state-of-the-art print centre in Cambuslang, Glasgow.
