Five wards at the Cumberland Infirmary are currently managing a Covid-19 outbreak.

Visitors are still permitted to visit all five wards, however, they are asked to sanitise hands before and after they leave and to also wear a face mask.

The wards currently affected are Beech C, Elm A, Elm C, Maple A, and Willow A.

A spokesperson for North Cumbria Integrated Care said: “As Covid continues to circulate in the community we regularly manage outbreaks on our wards. This is the same for any virus including flu, norovirus and RSV.

“When we have any outbreaks they are managed very closely by the ward team and our infection prevention team.

“We ask that visitors to the ward help us manage any outbreaks by following guidance to stop the spread of the infection and keep people safe. These simple measures include wearing a face mask and sanitising your hands regularly. Our ward staff follow enhanced cleaning processes throughout the outbreak and the ward is often closed for admissions.

“We share up to date information on our public website to make sure visitors are aware of any ongoing outbreaks on our wards.”
