CUMBRIA Fire and Rescue Service have rescued a baby seagull after it became trapped in the guttering of a Carlisle building.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service was called at 11:43 am on Tuesday, June 25 by a member of the public who reported that a baby seagull was trapped in guttering on a building on Scotch Street, Carlisle.

A crew from Carlisle East Fire Station attended the scene and freed the bird before passing it to a member of the public in order for them to transport the baby seagull to a welfare centre.

"Additionally, there was concern that a member of the public may attempt to affect the rescue themselves, therefore the service took the decision to deploy a crew to carry out the rescue on this occasion."
