TWO people have been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal after reports of a concern for welfare for a dog in a Penrith property.

Cumbria police were called to an address on Carleton Hall Walk, Penrith following reports for the concern for welfare of a dog at the property.

Two people have been arrested and the dog secured by police following the incident, with a quantity of suspected Class B drugs also located at the property.

In a statement, Eden police said: "Officers from Eden NPT, alongside Dog Section colleagues, attended an address on Carleton Hall Walk, Penrith, following concerns for the welfare of a dog.

"Officers safely secured the dog and two occupants have been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. Both currently remain in police custody assisting us with our enquiries and the dog is being examined by a vet.

"A quantity of suspected Class B drugs were also located in the property."
