Simon's Hair Shop has been nominated by News & Star readers as one of the ten finalists in its 'Best Hairdresser/Barber 2024' award.

The hairdresser, which is located on Carlisle's Lowther Street, is owned by Dan McViety, who over the business from his father Simon over a decade ago after the salon was initially opened in 1981.

After being informed that Simon's Hair Shop has been nominated as a finalist in the News & Star's 'Best Hairdresser/Barber 2024' award, Dan was on hand to express his delight.

He said: "It's great, it is a really good thing.

"We always try to look after our customers and try and keep everything going as best we can so this is very positive.

"Especially with the town being the way that it is, it is great to get something like this going on.

"It's great that customers like us and keep coming back, some of our customers have been coming here for 43 years so we really appreciate it."

Dan also discussed what he believes has made Simon's Hair Shop such a local favourite, from their 'cater for everyone' ethos or family-focused atmosphere.

He said: "I think people like us because we like to have a chat with people, we are fairly priced, and we are very family orientated.

"We have had many families that have come through over the years and we have now got grandparents with their children's children's children coming in which we really love.

"We also cater for everyone, we have never been too stuffy, we cover a wide range of things and try to give our customers a good service, and we enjoy what we do."
