A NEW play park has been installed in west Silloth after the residents have been "crying out" for the new feature.
The adventure playpark has been installed in the area known as the 'Stiles'. Colin Baty, secretary of Silloth on Solway Sport’s Association, managed to get the feature in place through Playdale Playground Equipment Ltd.
Colin spoke about why he decided to get the play park installed. He said: “No one else was doing it. I am the secretary of Silloth on Solway Sport’s Association and I funded a multi-use games area five years ago and one of the main remits was to improve leisure facilities.
"A lot of people in west Silloth have said over the years that they are forgotten about and there's nothing there for them.
"There used to be a park in this area but it was destroyed 30 years ago. I kind of said to myself last year that it was about time to re-use my fundraising skills and I hit the ground running this year and I got this complete last week."
Colin was awarded grants from multiple organisations including Cumbria Community Foundations, Franics Scott Trust, Hadfield Trust, The National Lottery Community Fund and the REPF grant scheme.
The adventure play park is designed for kids from the ages of 3 to 14, and includes a 25m zipwire, and a disabled station to cater for all abilities. The town council also has plans to install football posts in the area.
Colin spoke about the response so far. He said: "It has been super positive, everyone is extremely happy.
"I have been down to see it today for inspections and a few kids were there with parents and they were loving it."
