PLANS for a new Greggs outlet at a former Carlisle doctors' surgery have been submitted to Cumberland Council.
The application relates to the former Harraby surgery building on the corner of Eastern Way and London Road and the latest application is for two illuminated facia signs as well as a non-illuminated totem sign for the development.
In addition, the development would involve the replacement of an existing staff entrance door with a window, new air conditioning condensers and extract grilles.
A design report details the type and size of the air conditioning system proposed for the store, as well as the extraction ducting.
"The air conditioning and extract is proposed to run 24 hours unless specified by the local authority," it adds.
"This is to help reduce the heat build-up within the shop overnight which will help the performance of our refrigerated cabinets."
According to an odour impact assessment, which was based on the data collected from two existing Greggs’ shops in typical high street locations, the applicant plans to install the same standard equipment in all of their shops and they supply the same food offer across their estate.
According to the design statement the majority of the food served within outlets is pre-prepared products which are baked from frozen.
It adds: "We do not use cooking processes such as deep or shallow frying, grilling, griddling or any other more odorous kitchen processes."
The application is being considered by planning officers at the council's planning department.
