A POPULAR event will be returning this year to Muncaster Castle.

The Race the Tide obstacle course will return to the grounds of Muncaster this summer.

The event will take place on August 10 and features a 10km obstacle race. Contestants will have to wade through mud and rivers and scramble to the top of wooded hillsides.

The race starts and finishes on the grounds of Muncaster Castle and at the end, participants can enjoy a celebratory dinner.

Ewan Frost-Pennington of Muncaster Castle said: "We're excited about Race the Tide this year.

"We're working with KD Scaffolding to create innovative obstacles through Cumbrian engineering and craftsmanship.

"The race takes place around the castle and wider estates, the tidal element is that the river below the castle is tidal so that it can create some fun water obstacles.

"We want to encourage more spectators to come out and watch, it's fun to watch the contestants walking the plank or jumping from the diving boards.

"This will be the eleventh year we've hosted the event, it's proved popular over the years, and last year we had three hundred contestants. Another couple of hundred people usually come out to watch the race too, so it has become quite big."

Tickets are still available for those wishing to take part and West Cumbrian locals are being encouraged by the team at the castle to take part whether as an individual or in a team.
