A male was arrested in Whitehaven this morning for stalking before further being arrested for assaulting two police officers.

Initially cooperative, the man took a turn becoming "agitated" at the custody desk, landing a headbutt on an officer and spitting in another officer's face. 

A spokesperson from Cumbria Police said: "Unfortunately this kind of incident comes with the territory, but this behaviour won't be tolerated and the offences will be dealt with robustly.

"Both officers are safe and well despite one sporting a bruise and a bump."
