A walker suffering severe leg cramps was rescued from Scafell Pike by the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team on June 21.

The team received a call at 9.43pm from Cumbria Police about the walker who was making slow progress from the summit due to poor weather conditions.

A full callout was staged amid concerns that a stretcher carry might be needed.

However, as the first team member was making the ascent, the walker was found much lower than expected aided by a passing three-peak walking party.

A spokesperson from Wasdale MRT said: " Once he was moving again he was able to make it back to Brackenclose with assistance.

"This saved a potentially long night for team members, for which we are very grateful.

"The team then stood down and returned to base," they said.

The rescue operation was wrapped up by 12.38am.
