Dalston Scout Group are on still on the lookout for new scout leaders amidst fears the troop may have to close despite a previous appeal.

Having been operating with the minimum number of leaders for some time, Dalston Scouts have recently said goodbye to an Assistant Scout leader who has moved out of the county and a Beaver/Assistant Cub leader who is moving to Australia.

To make matters worse, the troop’s Scout leader is finishing at the end of the year, by which time all three of his sons will have passed right through the Group.

Michael has been a leader with Beavers, Cubs and mostly Scouts since 1995, including 22 years with the Dalston Group.

As the troop don’t have anyone to take over the running of the Scout Troop after Christmas, the search is on for Michael’s replacement and for extra help with all 3 Scout Sections – Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

Dalston Scout Group is one of the most popular troops in the area with a waiting list for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts.

A spokesperson for the Dalston Scout Group said: “Such a fantastic programme is delivered by an amazing team of leaders, all just ordinary individuals prepared to give up some of their valuable time to volunteer with Scouting.

“All our leaders have demanding jobs, many have young families, all have other commitments, but they are prepared to make time for Scouting because they see the benefits it brings to the young people.

“Many of our Leaders have no Scouting background.

“We will organise training, including safety and safeguarding, First Aid and all the practical aspects of the role.

“There will be endless opportunities to learn new skills, develop new hobbies and offer existing skills and interests to the children.”
