A historian will host a talk examining the Great War's influence on English families, with particular emphasis on the experience of fathers.
Based on 50 working-class autobiographies, Dr Rebecca Ball's talk will compare households where the father was absent with those where fathers were present due to exemption from military service.
An early career historian currently at the University of Wolverhampton, Ms Ball is interested in English working class daily life from 1900 to the middle of the century, particularly regarding the changes brought by two world wars.
Her talk will take place on Tuesday, July 9 at Cumbria's Museum of Military Life, in the Alma Block of Carlisle Castle.
Pre-booking is recommended to guarantee places at the talk, although walk-ins are allowed.
Doors open at 5.30pm, and a licensed bar is also available.
