CUMBRIA Freemasons held an open garden event to raise funds for their Festival Appeal.

The event occurred at their community garden at Parkside, in Cleator Moor.

The freemasons raised hundreds for their cause and many people visited the garden over the weekend.

In a post on social media, Cumbria Freemasons wrote: "The Province held an Open Garden event this weekend to raise funds for the Festival Appeal. The weather was grey and wet on Saturday, but a bit brighter on Sunday.

"Despite the not so great weather lots of people attended the event and at the moment the total raised is in excess of £800

"Visitors from the local area and Masonic connections attended to look around Tracey's wildlife garden in Parkside, near Cleator Moor and were treated to plenty of tea and cakes, as well as bee-keeping demonstrations, Hedgehog rescue talks, a treasure hunt and a walk around the pond. Lucky visitors also spotted Roe deer with young wandering across the fields on Saturday.

"We would like to thank each and every one who took the time to visit and spend time with us, and to all the helpers who gave up their time to serve the tea and cakes, man the stall, and wash up.

"We would also like to thank the local family that painted some pebbles to look like ladybirds and hid them for us in the garden, we look forward to finding them all and we will leave them there for others to find."
