AUTUS Cumbria has been raising awareness of Disability Pride Month.
The organisation supports autistic children and adults across South West Cumbria.
The Disability Pride Flag was updated back in 2021 and Autus has shared details on the meaning behind the colours.
In a post on social media, Autus Cumbria wrote: "July marks the start of Disability Pride Month, an opportunity to celebrate disabled people, their identities, their culture, and their vital contributions to society.
"The Disability Pride Month Flag was updated back in 2021. Here’s a rundown of what each of the colours represent.
"Green - represents sensory disabilities including blindness, deafness, and other sensory conditions.
"Blue - represents mental illness, anxiety, depression, and other psychiatric disabilities.
"White - represents invisible disabilities and those who haven’t yet been diagnosed.
"Yellow/Gold - represents neurodiversity.
"Red - represents physical disabilities.
"Charcoal - represents the mourning of disabled people victimised by ableism or lost to disability-fuelled violence. Acts as a reminder to protest against the mistreatment of disabled people.
"Diagonal band - represents cutting through the darkness (barriers) that disabled people often face."
