The school summer holidays are rapidly approaching and many families in Cumbria will be searching for some options for days out during a well-earned break.
While the weather in Cumbria might not be appealing as somewhere abroad, there is no doubt that the county offers plenty of activities that the whole family can enjoy.
We have listed five of the best attractions for the family this summer:
1. Go Ape, Whinlatter Forest, Keswick
The popular adventure activity attracts a huge amount of visitors each year and is the ideal day out for anyone who enjoys a physical sunshine in a beautiful natural setting.
Two brand new high ropes activities have been unveiled this year, with rope challenges suitable for kids and younger families, as well as for those who are after something a little tricker.
Tickets cost upwards of £20 each.
2. Muncaster Castle
While the iconic castle can no longer offer its Meadowvole Maze attraction, it has recently added an exciting weapons hall which allows visitors to take part in traditional medieval activities such as archery, axe throwing and jousting.
The West Cumbrian attraction also boasts a hawk and owl centre, beautiful gardens and theatre performances.
Tickets cost around £20 for adults and £10 for kids.
3. St Bees Beach
The beach is a popular holiday destination and would be a great choice should the weather warm up in the coming weeks.
Stretching from South Head to Seamill lane, St Bees beach consists of a shingle bank which slopes down to an expanse of golden sand, and offers close by cafe's, hotels and restaurants.
4. Carlisle Cathedral
The cathedral offers stunning views during the daytime, both inside and outside of the building.
They are also running a number of summer concerts, which would be a cheap and entertaining option for any music fans in Cumbria.
5. The Lake District
The summer months are the ideal time to visit the Lake District and enjoy some of the natural beauty that Cumbria has to offer. Aira Force, Buttermere and Derwentwater are all walks that can be completed by the family.
