Carlisle's new Uber-style app is booming with more than 5,000 customers now registered and actively using the service after only seven weeks since it launched.

Tap A Taxi, which began with just a handful of drivers, now boasts over 40 committed drivers ferrying customers around the city.

The app was created as a solution to the challenges people in Carlisle faced when trying to find a taxi, and it seems the local community has embraced this tech solution.

Carly Donaldson, a founder of the firm, said: "To say it has been a successful launch is an understatement.

"The support from the public has been incredible, with over 5,000 customers registered for an account and thousands of job requests made since launch.

"We cannot thank our amazing drivers and customers for their early support.

"Our drivers have been working incredibly hard, we are grateful to them for all their efforts both in taking jobs and spreading the word," she said.

According to Carly, people have shared positive feedback about the app, noting how simple and speedy it is to use.

Similarly, customers have so far reported feeling safer compared to standing in long taxi rank queues with the help of the app.

A personal highlight for the business so far was helping out at IM Events 'An evening with Harry Redknapp' delivering 300 portions of his favourite jam roly-poly, courtesy of FoodatBroadway.

Whilst Carly acknowledged that while the feedback has been "overwhelmingly positive", any constructive criticism received has been taken on board to enhance and improve their services going forward.

"Our customer demand is growing daily, so we welcome any self-employed drivers who would like to register with us to help with this demand.

"We have given advice to and helped out people in the early stages of getting their taxi license, so if this is something you are also thinking about, please get in touch," she said.

Going forward, Carly said the short-term aim is to make app improvements for enhanced user experience and better response times.

In the longer term, there are plans to extend the app's reach across all of Cumbria.

"The goal remains the same- making taxi travel fast, simple, and accessible to all," she said.

The app is available for download on both Apple and Android devices.
