Beat the crowds at the airport and treat yourself to a relaxing escape to the Crown Inn. Check-in, unwind and enjoy a glass of wine – or a pint of Thwaites ale - before heading out to explore the local area. Pooley Bridge Pier is just a 10-minute walk from the inn.

From there, catch an Ullswater Steamer and enjoy a scenic cruise along the lake. Running for over 160 years, learn about the valley as you cruise along. Be sure to get off at some of the stops to have a wander.

After a busy day sightseeing, nestle down for a delicious, homecooked meal before slipping off for a cosy night’s sleep. Small details make a big difference, which is why Daniel Thwaites ensures every room comes with a few little extras including deliciously crumbly biscuits and fresh milk for a morning brew.

Based on two people sharing, prices for a one-night stay in a Standard Double Room (B&B) start at £125 per room.*

Things to do this summer

Aira Force waterfall Aira Force waterfall (Image: Getty Images)

Aira Force is a 65-foot waterfall and is a jewel in Ullswater’s crown. Owned by the National Trust, the nature trails through ancient woodland as you walk up to the impressive waterfall. Being England’s third highest mountain, Helvellyn offers breathtaking views of the Lake District from the summit, making the challenging route up even more worth it. Start the climb from Glenridding car park or catch the boat and get off at Glenridding Pier.
