HERE at Newsquest we wanted to show you what life was like in Carlisle in 1980.
It has now been 44 years since this time and the world is an entirely different place than it was all those years ago for so many reasons.
This was a time when the British record TV audience for a film is set when some 23,500,000 viewers tune in for the ITV showing of the James Bond film Live and Let Die, the first episode of the popular political sitcom Yes Minister is broadcast on BBC2, Alton Towers Resort was opened by Madame Tussauds in Staffordshire as a theme park, the pre-decimal sixpence coin was withdrawn from circulation, and the American animated special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer aired on ITV for the last time.
These photos show some of what was happening in Cumbria at that time. We hope that these pictures might bring back some fond memories for you.
