Stanwix Park Holiday Centre, in the picturesque Victorian town of Silloth, has always been well regarded by the AA, regularly attracting 92 per cent and a gold award in inspections.

In the last one, not only did it meet the gold standard, it was named Holiday Centre of the Year for 2022/23. “It’s definitely something to shout about,” said advertising and marketing manager Sophie Leslie. “We’re looking forward to a busy summer.”
The family-owned business has been established for more than 50 years and offers everything you’d want from a holiday park.

Among the attractions are a newly refurbished leisure centre with a pool, gym and spa facilities; JJ’s Bowl, which also has soft play and a snooker room; and the Sunset Inn and Dunes Cabaret Bar offering day and night time entertainment.

You don’t even have to stay to take advantage of these, with day passes available to buy online.
“It’s definitely great for families,” said Sophie. “There’s nowhere else quite like it for entertainment. And it’s great value as all of our daytime activities are included in the holiday cost.”
The wide range of accommodation encompasses self-catering apartments and caravans, fully serviced pitches for touring caravans, tents and motorhomes, and camping pods.

When hiring, you can stay for three, four or seven nights, with only a minimum two-night stay required for your own tent, touring caravan or motorhome.

“A lot of our custom is repeat. People will come at more or less the same time every year. They might go abroad but they still come religiously. It’s nice to see the same faces,” said Sophie.
Summer daytime activities include the hilarious panto ‘Once upon a Fox’, Circus School, Animal Encounter, Laser Tag, Soft Archery, pool parties and much more.

“You’ll find the best family entertainment in the UK every night with Foxy Fox and the team, bringing you live music, magic shows, special guests, and family chaos!” said Sophie. “And if you find yourself a few child-free hours, the Dunes Bar is open Wednesday to Sunday for adults’ only live music and cash bingo.”
With an outdoor pool, you could be forgiven for thinking you were abroad.

“If you get the weather, you could be abroad with the outdoor pool and bar,” said Sophie. “It’s on the coast, so if you get the weather it’s lovely in Silloth with the seafront and the prom. There’s all the things you would expect, like ice cream and a funfair.”
Being family-run gives it a special and unique atmosphere.

“I think that filters through the park – family-friendly, home from home, that’s the feedback we get,” she said. “A customer came to check in and commented once, ‘We’re home.’”
