A DRINK-DRIVER ‘stupidly’ took his friends home the morning after they had been out watching England play in the Euros, a court heard.

Police received information that Logan Worthington, 19, was driving a Seat Ibiza ‘to a poor standard’ in Workington on June 21.

Pamela Fee, prosecuting at Workington Magistrates’ Court, said officers had gone to Worthington’s address and saw the defendant sat in the vehicle.

He was breathalysed and was found to be over the limit. He was taken to the police station where he gave a reading of 81mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit to drive is 35mcg.

Worthington stated he had been out watching the England match with friends and had ‘stupidly’ agreed to give them a lift home to Maryport in the morning. He said he thought he would be ok to drive.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, told magistrates: “I really regret what I did. It was a stupid thing to do. I thought I would be ok driving.”

He said he needed his car to get to work at Sellafield.

Worthington, of Elterwater Avenue, Workington, pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle with alcohol level above the limit.

Magistrates imposed a 21-month disqualification, to be reduced by 21 weeks, if Worthington completes the drink-drivers’ rehabilitation course.

The defendant was fined £427 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £171 victim surcharge.
