Hundreds of appointments were missed at a north Cumbrian medical practice in June.

Brampton Medical Practice has reported that there were 223 appointments last month that were missed due to patients failing to attend.

33 of those appointments were face to face with a GP.

The appointments were not cancelled by patients which meant that other people were unable to take them instead.

150 of these patients were sent two reminders encouraging them to cancel their appointment if they could no longer attend.

In May, this figure was slightly higher with 233 missed appointments which resulted in 48 hours of clinical time wasted.

The missed appointments ranged from meetings with GP and nurses, to health care assistants and first contact physiotherapy.

Primary Care Services North Cumbria wrote on Facebook: "Although we appreciate that on some occasions this might be due to unavoidable circumstances, however, if you can just let them know, as soon as you can, if you can no longer attend an appointment then this will help practice teams with high demands."
