CUMBERLAND Council's asset management strategy for the next three years has been approved.

The decision was made at a meeting of the full council at the Civic Centre in Carlisle on Tuesday (July 9).

The document covers what the authority owns including its operational portfolio, its community portfolio and its commercial portfolio.

The report was presented to members by councillor Barbara Cannon (St Michaels, Labour), the council's portfolio holder for financial planning and assets, who said it had taken quite some time to put together and it was still very much a work in progress.

Councillor Tim Pickstone (Longtown, Lib Dems) asked whether asked whether there was provision for asset transfer for those that were surplus to requirements and suggested they could go to parish and town councils.

Cllr Cannon said there was but added that if they did transfer the assets they would need to be assurances that they would be looked after.
