THE Specialist Palliative Care Unit at West Cumberland Hospital will move to a new part of the building.

The team at the unit, which is known as the Loweswater Suite, is preparing to make their move to the new ward area.

The new unit has the advantage of being located on the ground floor, meaning patients and families have access to an outdoor courtyard space.

The outdoor space is hoped to provide a place for patient and family feedback, away from the ward area.

This is particularly important for those receiving palliative care.

Andrea Hendren Matron for the area explained: “The patients we care for are at the end of their life, they want the opportunity to go outside in the sunshine, for some time away from the ward with their loved ones, take some time out to enjoy the fresh air, safe in the knowledge that should they need us we’re close at hand.

"We are now able to offer them this opportunity should they want it, it really will have such a big impact on our patients.”
