A NOTORIOUS stand-up comedian is set to perform in Whitehaven.
Roy 'Chubby' Brown is set to perform a show at The Solway Hall on May 9, 2025, as part of the Not Meant to Offend Tour.
Brown, whose real name is Royston Vasey, is well known for his foul-mouthed comedic performances.
He has been performing on the comedy circuit since the 1970s, and in those 50 years has gained a reputation as Britain's most 'offensive' comedian, with few subjects being off limits.
Due to the nature of Brown's act, many people deem him to be offensive and he rarely appears on television, but despite this he has still gained a strong fan base.
A spokesperson of Roy 'Chubby' Brown's promotion team said: "50 plus years in entertainment/comedy, Roy 'Chubby' Brown is still going strong, entertaining thousands and thousands of fans annually up and down the country, Roy is the undoubted King of Comedy.
"Countless DVDs, numerous books and CDs, thousands of live shows in a career spanning the decades, and millions of fans worldwide are still testimony to the fact that even in these ongoing crazy times of woke, cancellation, political correctness culture Roy is still the Best of the Best."
Brown is no stranger to West Cumbria; in October 2016 he played a show at Egremont Market Hall.
However, before the event parish councillors had deemed the show inappropriate and tried to get it cancelled.
Fans then set up an online petition which gained 300 signatures, making Egremont Town Council reverse their decision.
During the show, Brown made jokes about the council's attempts to stop the show, claiming that they didn't want him in Egremont because he was 'too rough.'
In May 2019, whilst performing at The Carnegie Theatre in Workington, Brown was forced to stop his show mid-set due to constant heckling from the crowd.
Despite Brown's reputation, the response to his show in Whitehaven has so far been good on social media.
One fan said: "Chubby is brilliant, he just wants to make people laugh, he is a true gent, I’ve met him countless times, it’s simply comedy."
Another said: "This guy still makes me laugh after 35 years."
