A Carlisle primary school was visited by a Cumberland councillor after its pupils penned a letter requesting 'more plants and flowers' in the city centre.
Students at Great Orton were visited by Vibrant and Healthy Places Portfolio Holder - Cllr Anne Quilter on Wednesday, July after she received a 'persuasive' letter from the school's pupils that asked for more space for greenery in Carlisle.
The students were inspired to send the letter after reading 'The Promise' and used skills they learned in the classroom to construct their message.
After the visit, the school thanked Cllr Quilter for her time and explained more about the student's green thinking.
A spokesperson for Great Orton Primary School said: "After reading a text called 'The Promise', Narnia class at Great Orton School wrote to the councillor to request more plants and flowers in the city centre.
"The story had inspired them as it showed what the impact of green space can have on a place.
"They used the skills learned in lessons to write a persuasive letter and were delighted when Cllr replied to thank them for a letter.
"We arranged for her to come and meet the children.
"It was great to see the children have such a warm and positive response and highlights the need for having a purpose for writing in schools."
