THE centenary celebrations at a local village hall have been described as 'lovely' by residents who were in attendance.

Over 300 past and present Heads Nook residents came together to celebrate the 100th birthday of the village's hall.

A celebratory party initially took place on Saturday, June 29, and featured live music from Eden Brass, traditional stalls, a bouncy castle, and a real ale bar.

One of the residents who was in attendance was Pat Newman, who expressed her delight at the weekend's success.

She said: "Over 300 visitors came, with over 100 both Saturday and Sunday.

"We had decided not to charge entry and visitors have been very generous in contributing to hall funds.

Former residents stayed in B and B’s locally, coming from London, Manchester, North Yorkshire, and all over Cumbria – and those were just the ones we heard about.

"Memories of growing up in Heads Nook in the 50’s shared with the 1970’s first residents of the Cairnwood Estate."
