The president of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) has praised StagedRight’s latest production as an ‘absolute triumph’.

The talented Carlisle theatre company’s production of Barnum was described a ‘probably the most impressive show I have seen for a very long time’ by NODA president, Christine Hunter-Hughes.

This year’s production was performed in a marquee at Eden Golf Club after the enforced closure of the Sands Centre after the discovery of RAAC in the building.

Despite a change in venue, the talented youngsters put on the ‘greatest show’ to packed out audiences across five shows.

NODA president, Christine Hunter-Hughes said she was ‘privileged’ to have seen it.

“For anyone who missed this production, you missed a real treat,” said Christine.

“The show was truly spectacular in every way, with some 85 young people, and a whole host of backstage technicians to put on probably the most impressive show I have seen for a very long time.

“It was impossible to decide where to look next with even a huge elephant - made by a member of the crew – on set.

“All of the principals were truly excellent but Francis Laidlaw as Barnum and Honor Lavery as his wife ‘Chairy’ were exceptional with good clear diction excellent singing and superb characterisations.

“I must also mention Jenny Lind played by Zoe Nelson, the charismatic ringmaster by James Laidlaw and Jessica Robinson as the delightfully ‘old’ Joice Heth.

“The Costumes were excellent throughout and just imagine costuming 85 young people with two or three changes each, in a tent - the logistics alone are breath taking.

“The cast received a well-deserved standing ovation, and I would suggest another one is due to all the ‘crew’.

“What an absolute triumph for all concerned.”

Plans are already underway for next year’s production of Les Misérables which will mark the 20th anniversary of StagedRight.
