A MOTORIST whose car was stopped on the M6 near Southwaite was transporting an eight-kilo consignment of amphetamine, worth an estimated £80,000.
At Carlisle Crown Court, 45-year-old Steve Little admitted possessing the Class B drug with intent to supply.
The charge confirms that he committed the offence on June 17. He also admitted a second offence, possessing £4,000 cash which was “criminal property,” meaning it was derived from or intended for use in crime.
Defence lawyer Jeff Smith told the court that Little is “lightly convicted” and asked Judge Michael Fanning to order a pre-sentence background report.
Judge Fanning ordered the report, urging Little to cooperate with the Probation Service as an officer prepares that document.
In the meantime, the defendant, of Riddell Avenue, Dumfries, was granted bail on condition that he does not cross the border and go into England or Wales until after the day he when he is due to be sentenced at the crown court.
Judge Fanning ruled that Little will be sentenced on August 15.
Previous bail conditions have allowed Little to leave Scotland if he has written confirmation of an appointment with his solicitor. The defendant spoke only to confirm his personal details and to enter his guilty pleas.
Concluding the case, Judge Fanning told Little: “You will be given appropriate credit for those pleas. I am adjourning for a pre-sentence report.
"You don’t have much by way of previous convictions.”
