A 'DEVOTED' catering manager at a Carlisle secondary school is set to retire after 26 years and serving more than two million meals to students.

Brigid Mason has worked at Caldew School since 1998 and in her time at the Carlisle secondary school has helped serve several generations of students an estimated 10,000 breakfasts and 106,000 meals a year.

In September,  Brigid will 'hang up her apron' after dedicating her working life to making sure that Caldew School's students don't go hungry.

Ahead of her retirement, the school wished Brigid all the best and thanked her for her dedication.

A spokesperson for Caldew School said: "After 26 years at Caldew School our catering manager Brigid Mason will hang up her apron at Caldew School at the end of the summer to join her husband in retiring having devoted the best part of her working life feeding Caldew students.

"With over 10,000 breakfasts and over 106,000 meals a year, Brigid and her team have fed nutritious high-quality meals tailored to every taste, trend, and diet.

"Brigid retires in early September and we wish her a very long and happy retirement."

Throughout her years at Caldew School, Brigid was supported by her 'five-star team', with the catering manager highlighting their help in a message to the school ahead of her departure.

She said: "I have a lot to thank Caldew School for as not only have they employed me for 26 years but educated my children from 11-18 years to a very high standard.

"It’s time for me to join my husband in retirement having devoted the best part of my working life to providing the catering service to numerous staff and students who I am going to miss very much.

"I have overseen massive changes in not only the catering facilities but food trends, tastes, expectations, rules, and regulations.

"All of this would not be possible without the support of my five-star team who are all just amazing."
