A Carlisle College Student is celebrating after reaching the finals of a prestigious national construction skills competition.
Joinery apprentice George Swift took first place in the North East SkillBuild regional heat last month and has since been announced as one of the eight students in his discipline set to compete in the national final in November.
SkillBuild is the nation’s largest construction skills, apprenticeships, and careers event. The North East qualifier was one of 19 regional qualifiers that took place across the country, as learners competed in their field to make it through to the Go Construct national final.
The regional qualifier was held at Newcastle College on 27 June and involved 70 competitors from 18 colleges and training providers across North England, Northern Ireland and Scotland.
Other learners from Carlisle College took four of the 18 top three places available including all three of the top three places for carpentry, thanks to Ben Wilkinson, Reeve Telford and Alfred Fosker.
