A major road improvement project will see a closure lasting six weeks starting next week.

Cumberland Council said the work, on the A5086 at Frizington, will be carried out by their contractor DSD Construction Ltd and will start on Monday, July 22, with a road closure put in place to manage traffic.

This project is part of the council’s extensive road improvement programme, which has seen completed work on several roads, including the A5086 from Scallow Farm to Rowrah, A595 Whicham Valley, A5086 from Crossgates to Kirkland, and the A595 Waberthwaite.

The upcoming improvements will include road repairs, footway improvements, drainage replacement, and refreshing road markings, the council said.

A full closure will be in place from 7am to 7pm from July 22 with the site closed for vehicle access while pedestrian access will remain available throughout, and resident access will be maintained ‘when safe to do so’.

The project will be organised in two phases – the first will cover the area from the beginning of the village to just before Yeathouse Road, and the second will extend from Yeathouse Road to beyond the mini roundabout.

All work in the first phase will be completed before moving on to the second phase, and throughout the works, access for emergency vehicles under blue lights will be always maintained.

Cumberland Council said it ‘understands that this project may cause some inconvenience to road users’ and added that it is ‘working with local stakeholders, including parish councils and local members, to minimise disruption as much as possible’.
