A CARLISLE mum is preparing to represent England at the upcoming Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in South Africa.
Sharon Holmes, 52, has been powerlifting since 2016 and has competed internationally for Great Britain four times, including finishing third at the World Powerlifting Championships in Canada in 2022.
In June 2022, Sharon won the British Master's II category bagging her a spot in the prestigious world championships.
This October, she will represent England for the first time at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championships in Sun City.
Ahead of the competition, Sharon has reached out for public support as she hopes to raise £300 to cover a portion of the outbound journey.
"Powerlifting is a self-funded sport and sometimes we just need to ask for a little help from friends," she said.
"What I’m asking for is the price of a coffee, let’s say £3, to help pay towards the outbound flight.
"I don’t expect anyone to put their hands in their pockets again after being so generous for Canada but if any donations can even help to cover the flight out or part of it, then it means I can use any opportunities I have to work extra to go towards the rest," she said.
