The summer holidays may have arrived for Cumbria's schoolchildren and families but sadly the weather doesn't always agree.
Cumbria is well-known for both its beautiful landscapes and rainy weather, and the two sadly don't go hand in hand, especially if you want a family-friendly day out.
Thankfully, there is a wide variety of family-friendly indoor activities that can be enjoyed regardless of the weather. Here are five great options in north and west Cumbria.
1. The Rheged Centre, Penrith
Located near Penrith, this cultural hub offers a mix of activities, including an IMAX cinema, art exhibitions, pottery painting, and soft play areas. It's perfect for families with children of all ages.
2. Keswick Climbing Wall and Activity Centre
Situated in Keswick, this centre offers a range of indoor activities, including climbing walls suitable for various skill levels, indoor archery, and a soft play area for younger children. It’s a great way to stay active indoors.
3. Tullie, Carlisle
Tullie might not be fully ready yet, having postponed the official re-opening until the Autumn, but last week saw the launch of the Backing the Blues exhibition at the popular Carlisle destination.
It would be a great day out for any fans of the club, who want to learn more about the Blues' history, ahead of what will hopefully be a successful season back in League Two for Paul Simpson's side.
4. The Kirkgate Centre, Cockermouth
The Kirkgate Centre is an entertainment and cultural venue at the heart of the lively community of Cockermouth.
It celebrates local talent and heritage, and brings top quality professional entertainment to the town and many other communities across the area to the west of the Lake District National Park.
Whether you enjoy films on a big screen, live music, theatre, exhibitions, shows for children and families or community events, Kirkgate has something for everyone.
5. Whitehaven Sports Centre, Whitehaven
A modern sports facility offering a variety of indoor activities, including a climbing wall, sports courts, and fitness classes. The centre often has family-friendly sessions and activities suitable for children of all ages.
