A SECTION of the M6 has been re-opened following a serious collision in which five people have been take to hospital.

The M6 between J32 and J33 has been closed in both directions for a large part of this afternoon, July 22 following a major collision involving one vehicle.

Police were called to the collision at around 2pm, with an announcement that the road had been re-opened just after 7pm this evening.

In a statement, Lancashire police said: "We can now confirm that the M6 J32-J33 has been re-opened. Thank you for your patience whilst the motorway was closed.

"Please be advised traffic may still be heavier than usual."

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, with four other people also being taken to hospital after suffering injuries.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We received a report of a collision involving one vehicle between junction 32 and 33 of the M6 at around 2pm today.

"A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Four other people also suffered injuries and have been taken to hospital.

"The motorway is closed in both directions between junctions 32 and 33 and we will bring you an update when we’re able to.
