THE second phase of a major housing development in Whitehaven has been given the green light.
Gleeson Homes say further houses will now be built at its Ivy Mills development, located off Cleator Moor Road.
The housebuilder was given planning permission to build 26 homes for the first stage of the development in December 2021.
Gleeson Homes say the second phase of the development will transform a once disused brownfield site into a ‘vibrant community’ with 63 homes, offering a mix of 2, 3, and 4-bedroom properties.
The development is expected to attract a variety of residents, from first-time buyers and downsizers to key workers, aligning with Gleeson’s strategic focus to cater to a wider customer base and the community needs of the area.
As part of Gleeson’s ongoing commitment to community and infrastructure development, the developer has provided more than £95,000 towards enhancing the local drainage network under a Section 106 agreement.
Construction is set to begin in late summer, with homes expected to be released for sale in 2025.
Frazer Thompson, regional managing director at Gleeson Homes, said: “We are delighted to have secured another fantastic development in Whitehaven. Set in a great location, the site will showcase the best of our product offerings.
“We are passionate about supplying much-needed high-quality affordable homes to those who need them most, as well as enhancing the local communities where we operate. We can’t wait to get started.”
