A council has warned residents of scammers running fake parking websites.

Appleby Town Council said that earlier this week they were made aware of some websites that appear to be genuine parking websites but are not.

Instead, if people attempt to pay for their parking via these sites, money is taken despite the parking not being properly paid for.

A spokesperson from Appleby Tourist Information Centre said the scam is ‘common’ and added: “When parking in Broad Close car park, please ensure you visit the correct web address to pay.”

The correct web address is www.paybyphone.co.uk.
