A 33-year-old man from Carlisle has died following a crash on the M6 that left five people, including children, hospitalised.

The crash occurred at Bilsborrow, near Preston, around 2pm on July 22, on the highway's southbound carriageway between junctions 33 and 32.

Officers found a Seat Altea car, which had exited the road and rolled multiple times. 

The driver 'suffered serious' head injuries and was taken to the hospital, where he passed away on July 23.

A woman in her 20s and two children, who were passengers in the car, have been discharged from the hospital after treatment.

Another female passenger in her 60s is still in hospital. 

A file is currently being prepared for the coroner. 

Part of the M6 was closed with traffic at a standstill as emergency services arrived on the scene.

Police announced that the road had been re-opened just after 7pm on July 22. 

Police are currently appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the crash to come forward. 

Det Sgt Helen Parkinson of Lancashire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts first and foremost are very much with the man’s family and loved ones at this distressing time.

“Our investigation into the collision continues and we continue to appeal for witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage, to contact us.”
