REVISED plans have been put forward for Carlisle's Pirelli factory to expand with a 'green tyre' store extension.
The resubmission for the major employer on Dalston Road, comes after the applicant reassessed operations for a previously approved plan, concluding a larger store was necessary for the site.
Revised plans were submitted to Cumberland Council on July 22.
The revised plans indicate an additional 200m² added to the proposed extension's footprint, making it 65m long by 40m wide.
"The ‘green’ tyre store is essentially a holding area for tyres which have been partly manufactured and stored until they can be called back onto the production line to go through the final process of ‘curing’," the design and access statement reads.
"The curing process is where the tyres receive their tread pattern using the correct moulds for that particular tyre size and configuration."
Views of this proposed extension, attached to the southwest side of the main factory site, are most likely to be from Cummersdale Road.
Pirelli currently employees around 980 full-time staff members.
There is no expected increase in employment as the new store is purely intended for automated storage.
"Little change is expected in traffic to or from the factory," the application states.
