Cumberland Council has completed a large-scale street cleansing initiative in Keswick.

The project, which lasted two weeks, has improved the 'cleanliness and appeal' of the area for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The street cleaning crew's main targets were getting rid of ground-in dirt from pavements and pedestrian areas, eradicating weeds and chewing gum, and giving street furniture and signs a much-needed wash.

Making use of an arsenal of specialist equipment, including a mechanical scrubbing deck and jet washers, the dedicated crews covered Keswick's town centre, including St John Street, Lake Road, and ending at the A5271.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, executive member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said: "We are pleased that the ongoing deep clean initiative, continuing from last year, has been successfully completed in Keswick.

"Enhancing the attractiveness of Cumberland town and city centres benefits both the local community and our visitors.

“This program demonstrates Cumberland Council’s commitment to creating a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant area, highlighting our pride in putting health and wellbeing at the forefront.

"Maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our town and city centres through these efforts contributes significantly to the well-being of our residents and visitors."
