Cumberland Council has launched a new road safety initiative to improve safety for road workers.
Launched in April, the initiative consists of new signs installed across Cumberland in response to safety concerns raised by council staff.
It aims to deter members of the public from speeding through road works or trying to pass road closures.
The signs feature images of Cumberland’s Highway teams and their children, drawing attention to the importance of road safety and the need for caution.
The aim is to reduce the risk road workers face and ensure all staff can return home safely.
Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, executive member for Sustainable, Resilient, and Connected Places, said: “Every day, our Highways teams perform their duties with dedication and professionalism.
"Unfortunately, some individuals disregard road closures, trying to bypass them or abusing our staff.
"This behaviour not only disrupts their work but more importantly, can also pose an unnecessary risk to their safety.
“To tackle this issue, we have introduced new signage to remind the public to exercise caution in roadworks areas.
"Our primary goal is to create a safer working environment for those who tirelessly serve our community.
"By adhering to road closure signs and driving carefully, we can help ensure that our dedicated staff members return home safely to their loved ones."
