A primary school has said that it is 'thrilled' after winning a Gold School Games Award.
Lanercost Chruch of England Primary School has received the award for the 2023/24 academic year in recognition of the school's commitment to sports and physical education.
The School Games Award is a national initiative designed to encourage and reward schools for their dedication to sports and physical activities.
The award also comes after the school was given a new 'Outstanding' Ofsted rating at the beginning of July.
Lexi Wilkinson, the Headteacher of Lanercost Church of England Primary School, expressed her delight at the school's accomplishment.
She said: "We are absolutely thrilled to receive the Gold School Games Award, especially in light of our 'Outstanding' rating from Ofsted.
"This award is a testament to the exceptional sports program we offer at Lanercost and reflects the dedication and enthusiasm our children show in every activity.
"Sports and physical activities are crucial not only for physical fitness but also for promoting mental health and well-being.
"This achievement is a collective effort from our entire team, including teachers, children, and parents.
"However, special recognition must go to Sarah Siddall, our sports lead, whose outstanding leadership and passion have been instrumental in reaching this milestone.
"Her work is second to none, and we are incredibly fortunate to have her guiding our sports initiatives."
Lexi also discussed more about the school's commitment to promoting the benefits of sports and physical education.
"This award highlights the school's commitment to promoting a healthy and active lifestyle among its children, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to participate in and enjoy a variety of sports.
"Engaging in physical activities supports not only physical development but also mental health, reducing stress and building resilience."
