A WORKINGTON post office looks set to close, as the organisation put plans in place to move the services into a nearby Spar store.

The Post Office are proposing to move the Moorclose Estate Post Office branch to a new location, just a few doors down into the Spar store on Westfield Drive, Workington

The post office said the new post office would operate as one of our local style branches and would be known as Westfield Drive Post Office, subject to consultation.

The organisation say they are making the move to 'safeguard' local services longer term, following the resignation of the current post master.

In a statement on their website, Post Office said: "The current postmaster has resigned and the premises would be withdrawn for Post Office use, however we are pleased to inform you that a new operator has been appointed, who has identified an alternative location to operate Moorclose Estate Post Office Post Office.

"Our priority is to safeguard our services in the locality in the longer term and the relocation of Moorclose Estate Post Office would enable us to maintain a Post Office service to our customers in the community."

If a consultation is successful the current post office would close on September, 11 according to the website.
