Workington Reds have bolstered their squad with the signing of two promising young players.

Ben McCarron and Tom Stephenson have both agreed deals with the Borough Park club.

The duo have been on trial with Reds during pre-season and have caught the eye of new manager Mark Fell.

Versatile forward McCarron joins after impressing for Cleator Moor Celtic while winger Stephenson arrives from Holker Old Boys having previously been on Blackpool's academy books.

Manager Fell is delighted with the additions of the two players.

Speaking via Reds' official channels, he said: "These are two really talented young players who we feel could have a positive impact on our success this year.

"It may be that we manage their playing time with some carefully selected loans and dual registrations but we wouldn’t have them in with us if we didn’t think they had very bright futures."

Dave Round, the Holker Old Boys manager, wished Stephenson well as he steps up to the Northern Premier League Premier Division with Reds.

"Everyone at @HOBAFC would to like to wish Tom Stephenson all the best - great player and a top lad to match," the boss of the south Cumbrian club wrote on X.

Reds are in pre-season action at Ashington on Saturday, two weeks before the big NPL Premier kick-off at Guiseley on August 10.
