THE spotlight is set to shine on the Ullswater 'Steamers' in the upcoming episode of Channel 5’s new five-part series, Cumbria: The Lakes and Coast.

Narrated by Downton Abbey actor Jim Carter, the series has already made stops at Windermere, Ulverston, and Buttermere, drawing attention to the stunning landscapes and rich history of the Lake District.

The beloved Ullswater 'Steamers', part of the family-run Lake District Estates, is 'delighted' to be featured in the programme's next episode.

The company provides award-winning, eco-friendly cruises on Ullswater lake, a service it has been offering for more than 160 years.

Ahead of the episode's airing, marketing ambassador and trainee skipper, Todd Cumberpatch, said: "All publicity is good publicity".

"The view of the company is that if we can put this part of the world on the map, encourage people to come to use the steamers, but not only that, use all the other cafes, campsites, and B&Bs that rely on people coming to the area for their livelihoods.

"It’s about being part of that community," he said.

Whilst the episode's contents remain under wraps,  perhaps it may draw attention to the Ullswater 'Steamers' historical significance.

Among their fleet, they pride themselves in operating what they believe to be the world's oldest running passenger boat, the Lady of the Lake, built in 1877.

Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and Ullswater ‘Steamers’ have also announced a budget-busting move for families hoping to get out and about exploring the Lakes over the next eight weeks with a special  ‘Kids go free on Fridays’ offer.

Available only for online tickets, the offer runs every Friday until September 6 and means one child can go free with every full-fare paying adult on full-line return journeys at La’al Ratty or any return on Ullswater ‘Steamers’.

Ullswater 'Steamers' TV showcase is set to be aired on Channel 5 on Wednesday, July 31 at 8pm.
