PARCEL delivery service Evri is looking to fill 160 courier roles in Carlisle, with DPD also looking to bring another 40 permanent drivers on board.

Nationally, Evri intends on hiring 9,000 new staff in the UK after the company agreed to be bought by new owners, US private equity firm Apollo, in a deal worth £2.7 billion.

Couriers typically earn around £16.50 per hour, according to Evri.

The roles come with the flexibility of delivering parcels between 8am and 8pm.

Martijn De Lange, chief executive of Evri, said: “We know that service, reliability and quality are critical factors for our clients and consumers.

"We have an industry-leading 99 per cent on-time delivery rate and our couriers have received more than 3 million 5-star reviews on Trustpilot and customers using our own app rate their courier 4.7 out of 5 on average.

“New client wins, and increased parcel volumes are proof of the trust customers have in our service and biggest-ever recruitment drive promises to deliver another record year," he said.

The number of parcels being delivered is now higher than during the pandemic years when lockdowns and the shift to remote working caused home deliveries to boom, Evri said.

This trend mirrors growth within other Carlisle-based delivery firms.

In 2020, online shopping giant Amazon opened a new 7,000 square foot delivery station on Woodlands Industrial Storage Estate in Longtown - bringing with it 120 jobs.

At the beginning of this year, DPD expanded in Carlisle with the opening of a new 62,000 sqft warehouse operating as its 'exchange hub', in conjunction with its distribution centre, which was completed in November 2023.

The development aimed to cement the organisation as a core employer within the area, bringing its staffing intake to around 350 jobs.

DPD is currently recruiting for 40 new permanent delivery driver jobs in Carlisle, ahead of the build-up to Black Friday and Christmas.
