A Cumbrian woman has raised more than £500 for her local mountain rescue team after running a 50-mile marathon.
Kath Laithwaite had an accident on the Lake District fells recently and although she didn't require the help of Penrith Mountain Rescue Team, it was comforting to know they were only a phone call away.
Despite two realignment procedures on both legs, Kath, who lives in the valley of Rosgill, wanted to take on one final challenge in the name of charity before retiring from running.
On Saturday July 27, she set off on the historic 50-mile trail, which sees runners travel from the Northern end of Ullswater within the grand Dalemain Estate before following the Eastern shore line as far as Howtown.
Kath 'absolutely smashed' the challenge and finished in the early hours of Monday morning.
On her JustGiving page, which has raised £515 at the time of writing, Kath said:
"Having worked alongside fab people who volunteer their time to this amazing service and listened to the stories of there relentless dedication and regularly bump into them whilst out on the fells, it seems only right to do my bit!"
Kath also intends to volunteer after retiring from running.
