BASSENTHWAITE Sailing Club has hosted the National School Sailing Association (NSSA) regatta. 

The event in the heart of the Lake District took place between Monday, July 22, and Friday, July 26, with hundreds of young sailors competing from all over the country. 

Sailors traveled from as far afield as Kent and Plymouth as 14 regional teams and 181 boats competed in the week. 

The week featured a number of different events such as the black course and fast handicap which was won Patrick and Johnathon Hill sailing an RS200 for Derbyshire who were victorious in seven of their fourteen races.

In the slow handicap, Henry Blades and James Catterall won nine of their 14 races to claim overall victory. 

The event also featured a midweek final as the young sailor competed for the Mount Haeys Trophy with Patrick Hill and Amelia Gaye from Derbyshire claiming glory in a race that also featured to Cumbrians, 13-year-old James Reekie and 10-year-old Oliver Smith.
